Mark Van Schuyver, PhD - Founder and Director
Dr. Van Schuyver is the Founder (Shizu) and owner of the Yellow River Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Tanglang Quan) Association . He founded the Association on January 5th, 2016. The Association was created for the purpose of advancing all styles of Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Tanglang Quan) through instruction, practice, research, knowledge sharing, and instructor certification. "The Yellow River of China runs through the birthplace of Tanglang Quan. The Yellow River of Georgia, USA literally runs through my backyard, where I practice my Tanglang. Hence the name! Mark Van Schuyver has been practicing martial arts, including Praying Mantis Kung Fu, since 1974. He holds the rank of Black Belt 6th Degree from the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association, the rank of Black Belt 1st Degree from the United States Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and the rank of Black Sash and Laoshi from the North Georgia Chinese Boxing Academy under Shifu Tim Pugh. Van Schuyver is a Dao Li Shi (Scholar) of the Dao Li Jiao Way of Reason School of Daoism. Dr. Her Yue Wong, Zong Shi.
Van Schuyver owns and operates Ching Yi Kung Fu Atlanta, an affiliate school of the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association, Founder/Director Her Yue Wong, PhD. Ching Yi Kung Fu Atlanta opened its doors in 2011. The Ching Yi Kung Fu Atlanta curriculum includes Tanglang Quan, Taiji Quan, Xingyi Quan and Bagua Zhang.
Dr. Van Schuyver is a Management Consultant at Koch Industries, an Adjunct Professor at Mercer University, and he is a nonfiction writer specializing in martial arts and other topics. His work has been published in a number of national magazines including Black Belt, Inside Kung Fu, Karate/Kung Fu Illustrated, Karate Illustrated, Fighter International, MA Training, American Karate, Tae Kwon Do Times, American Handgunner, and Inside Karate. He is the author of three books: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fighting Strategies with co-author Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti; Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai with co-author Pedro Solana Villalobos; and, Secrets of Championship Karate with co-author Karyn Turner.
